Soap De Goa: Handmade in Goa
Soap De Goa is our signature soap series, named for the place where everything we make is made. Three bars, each handmade by the cold process method that preserves botanical oils and natural glycerin. The Sensitive bar cleanses gently enough for reactive skin. The Charcoal bar uses activated charcoal to draw out impurities, suited to skin that congests easily. The Exfoliating bar polishes as it cleanses, for skin that needs regular renewal.
What cold process actually means
Most commercial soap is made hot and fast, and the glycerin produced during saponification is extracted and sold on, because glycerin is worth more as an ingredient elsewhere than it is in the bar. That is why ordinary soap leaves skin tight. Cold process keeps the temperature low, takes weeks rather than hours to cure, and leaves the glycerin where it formed, along with the more fragile components of the botanical oils that heat would otherwise destroy. It is a slower, more expensive way to make soap, and it is the reason these bars behave differently on the skin.
Choosing your bar
Take the Sensitive bar if your skin reacts easily, flushes, or has been unhappy with everything else you have tried. Take the Charcoal bar if you congest, particularly on the back, chest and shoulders, or if you work in a city and want something that clears the day off properly. Take the Exfoliating bar if your skin builds up and dulls, on shins, elbows, forearms and upper arms. All three suit body use. The Sensitive bar is the only one we would recommend on the face.
Getting the most out of a handmade bar
Let it drain. A cold process bar holds more water than a commercial one and will soften if it sits in a puddle, so a slotted dish and a dry hour between showers roughly doubles how long it lasts. Lather in your hands or on a cloth rather than dragging the bar over your skin. Rinse warm, not hot, and moisturize while skin is still damp.
