Ayurvedic Acidity Support

Acidity support from liquorice, done two ways. Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is the whole standardized extract, the form Ayurveda has used for digestive comfort for centuries. DGL is the deglycyrrhizinated form, processed to remove glycyrrhizin. Both are made in our own GMP-certified Goa facility, with exact ingredients and amounts on each product page.

Which form is yours

This is the clearest choice on our health range, because the two products are the same plant prepared differently for different circumstances. Yashtimadhu is the traditional whole extract, and the one to choose for shorter courses and occasional use. DGL has had the glycyrrhizin removed, which is the compound responsible for liquorice's effect on blood pressure and potassium at higher intakes, and it is therefore the form generally preferred for longer, more regular use and by anyone who has been told to watch their blood pressure. If you are unsure, or if you are on blood-pressure medication, DGL is the safer default and your doctor is the right person to confirm it.

About liquorice in Ayurveda

Yashtimadhu means sweet stick, and it is one of the most frequently prescribed single herbs in the entire classical corpus, appearing in formulations for the throat, the stomach, the chest and the skin. Its use for digestive comfort specifically goes back as far as the written record does, and it remains one of the few traditional botanicals with a genuinely large modern literature behind it.

How to take them

As stated on each product page, generally before meals, with water. Give it two to four weeks. Alongside, the ordinary advice does more than people expect: smaller meals, less late eating, less alcohol, and not lying down within three hours of dinner. Liquorice in any form is not intended for indefinite continuous use without a break, and the whole-extract version in particular should be taken in courses rather than permanently.

When acidity is not just acidity

Reflux that wakes you at night, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, black stools or pain that radiates to the arm or jaw are reasons to see a doctor promptly rather than to buy anything. Persistent heartburn lasting more than a few weeks deserves a proper look, not indefinite self-management.

Made where we say

Two forms of one plant, both full-spectrum standardized extracts, vegan, assayed batch by batch, from a GMP-certified facility we own and operate in Goa. We have standardized Ayurvedic botanicals there since 1963, which is the whole reason we can tell you the difference between these two products in this much detail.
