Yashtimadhu is Glycyrrhiza glabra — the familiar liquorice root known across India as mulethi — and one of Ayurveda’s long-established botanicals. Amsarveda Yashtimadhu provides 500 mg of liquorice-root extract per capsule, made in our own GMP-certified facility in Goa.
What is Yashtimadhu?
Some botanicals arrive in modern wellness as though they have only just been discovered, but Yashtimadhu is not one of them.
Known in Hindi as mulethi and botanically as Glycyrrhiza glabra, Yashtimadhu has been described in Ayurvedic literature for centuries, where even its name — often translated as “sweet stick” — tells you something immediately recognisable about the root itself.
The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India recognises Yashti as Glycyrrhiza glabra, and classical Ayurvedic descriptions associate the botanical with madhura rasa, or sweet taste, together with a cooling and nourishing character.
We respect that history deeply.
But we also believe that the most useful way to work with an old botanical today is not simply to repeat what was said about it centuries ago, nor to force every traditional observation into modern clinical language.
It is to understand what the plant is, how it has traditionally been used, what is actually present in the extract we make today, and where the limits of our knowledge remain. That is the approach we take to Yashtimadhu.

When you buy a botanical extract, the name on the front of the bottle tells you only part of the story.
You would also want to know which plant was used, which part of it was processed, how the extract was made, what constituents are present and whether the finished batch was checked against a specification.
